The controller area network (C.A.N.) bus interface is an important part of the computerized powertrain controls section of the ASE A8 and L1 tests. If you do not completely understand CAN data and the GM LAN system, you should know it before you step through ASE’s test center doors. AVI and Dave Hobbs CAN guide you through the functions, features and diagnostics of the CAN system.
Dave will start with an explanation of CAN data, how it works and why it is necessary. He will show you how to identify vehicles that are equipped with CAN and how the system differs from others. Dave provides schematics to help you learn how the system works.
This program explains functional diagnostics and defines buzzwords such as “Virtual Networks,” “Learned Nodes” and “Buddy Systems.” Dave defines code suffixes and system numbers and shows you how they can help with diagnostics. He also explains what a “CANDI” (Controller Area Network Diagnostic Interface) module is used for. Dave packs a huge amount of information into this 1.25 hour seminar.
