Basics of Charging Systems
This program explains how alternators work and how they provide power. Dave covers the components of an alternator and their functions. He explains the types of alternator fields and the function of a voltage regulator: how diodes work and what causes current change.
Dave covers voltage drop and alternator ripple tests and when to use them. He explains the multi-wire voltage regulator connector and common alternator failures and their probable causes. Dave also provides hands-on test procedures using a VAT 40, volt meter and amp meter and loads of tips.
