A8 Engine Performance Info

The most common problems and repairs on vehicles are engine performance issues. Many of these problems are also the toughest to diagnose. The other ASE A series exams each deal with one certain vehicle system. Engine operation involves different systems that work together to keep the engine running smoothly and efficiently. The A8 exam evaluates your knowledge of the diagnosis and repair of engine performance issues and the systems that are involved in engine performance.

The test is made up of five sections and begins with an overall assessment of general engine diagnosis and repair. An engine performance problem could be a result of a failure in a number of vehicle systems which include: the ignition system, fuel system, air induction and exhaust system, the emission control system or the computerized engine control system. The diagnosis and repair of this type of problem requires a great understanding of each of these systems.
