If you work for a shop that services automatic transmissions or are considering specializing in transmission repair, you need to know transmissions like the back of your hand.  The A2 certification exam will evaluate your knowledge of automatic transmission/transaxle diagnosis and repair so you will have the confidence to take on any transmission problem.

#1 – General Transmission Diagnosis
Your goal to pass: 70%
Average score: 81.2%

Covers some of the symptoms that indicate a transmission problem such as slippage, shift timing issues, noise, and vibration, harshness and shift quality.  Also covering electronic control systems, electronic systems, diagnostic trouble code checks and TCM replacement.

#1 – In Vehicle Transmission Maintenance
Your Goal to pass: 70%
Average score: 67.5%

Routine maintenance and many repair procedures can be done while the transmission is in the vehicle.  This quiz covers these procedures, which include: linkage adjustment, case service, driveline service, valve body service, servo and accumulator service, governor service, speedometer drive gear service, transmission mount inspection and service, fluid and filter service, band adjustment and electronic component service.

#1 – Off Vehicle Transmission Repair
Your goal to pass: 70%
Average score: 63.9%

If internal transmission or torque converter damage is revealed through testing, the transmission will need to be removed from the vehicle for service.  Covering such things as how to remove the transmission and service of the internal transmission components, torque converter service, transmission disassembly and inspection and final assembly and installation.
