The program relates the problems that are used in the exam to situations that technicians actually encounter while on the job.  It is based on the Motor Information Systems L1 Study Guide and is separated into separate sections for each system including general powertrain diagnosis, computerized powertrain controls, ignition system, fuel and air induction system, emission control system failures and I/M failure diagnosis.  Instructors Dave Hobbs and Jim Wilson relate the composite vehicle to their own point of view and situations they have come across in the field.  The package comes with a 6.5 hour DVD, Motor Study Guide and practice test.

Bill covers NOX readings, why they are important and how to quickly identify problems.  He explains the effect of air/fuel ratios on HC, CO and O2.  He will show you how to use O2 sensor waveforms to verify that the cat is being fed and why you can’t always count on catalytic temperature readings.

This class will show you what to do before replacing the catalytic converter and give you 12 points on NOX testing.  You will also learn how to cut your diagnostic time with the Bill Fulton MERLIN chart (Mechanical, Electrical, Rich, Lean, Injector, Normal)
