A Message From ASE

ASE was founded in 1972 and for the past 37 years has fulfilled its mission of providing certification credentials to automotive professionals in order to help raise the level of professionalism in the automotive industry and in the minds of consumers. In all that time, ASE has maintained the support of both OEM and aftermarket sides of the industry. ASE certification is widely recognized as the standard industry credential for technicians and other automotive service professionals, and is incorporated into many OEM manufacturer training programs and is strongly supported in the independent service shop community.

The ASE tests are written by working technicians and other subject matter experts from the repair industry. The individuals who attend ASE test-writing workshops are the heart of the ASE program and it is their knowledge and experience that ultimately determines the standards for technician knowledge that we measure by ASE testing. While the program may not be perfect, our research shows clearly that individuals holding ASE certification are more productive, more accurate in diagnosis and repair, have a greater first-fix success, get better performance reviews and even stay on the job longer—which translates into better job satisfaction.

There are nearly 400,000 automotive professionals who proudly hold ASE certification. Having the commitment to achieve certification says a lot about your dedication to your craft. Although customers usually don’t bring it up at the service desk, our research shows that they do recognize and appreciate the value of having an ASE certified technician work on their vehicle, and will look for those credentials when choosing their repair facility.
